58 Barre Street Senior Housing - Montpelier, Vermont
The vision of Gossens Bachman Architects (GBA) was to renovate an old Catholic School building, located in Montpelier, Vermont, to provide housing and community space for seniors in the area. A total gut rehab exposed the frame and shell of this half century old building. GBA designed upgrades to the envelope that improved the thermal performance. Mechanical systems were minimized and alternative energy systems were installed. A wood pellet boiler system and a thermal solar domestic water heating system were installed. Photovoltaic was also used to reduce the electric energy cost.
