​The objective of Existing Building (EBCx) or Retro-Commissioning (RCx) is to examine and optimize a buildings mechanical systems. By doing so, the buildings energy efficiency can be improved and degradation or faults within the system, which can occur either over time or in the initial construction, can be revealed and addressed. RCx is an effective yet minimal cost way to improve the energy consumption and cost savings of a building with little investment. Existing systems and equipment can often be improved or optimized without the need for replacement. RCx can also help to identify areas of improvement in the systems maintenance, training procedures and operation. By the evaluating and optimizing the buildings systems through RCx, the comfort and indoor air quality can also be improved.
